Sculpture

Dravidian architecture and Tamil sculptures remain genius works of art. The mathematical accuracy of its architecture is palpable in the magnificence of shrines and temples built. Besides, stone carvings existed since Ancient Indian history with archaeological excavations showing cave inscriptions and granite figurines along with statuettes.

 

Pottery, gem-cutting, building and construction, pearl fishing were also areas Tamil civilization left their footprint. Coins were carved to become emblem of respective dynasties.

 

Woodcraft using wooden barks and coconut fibres was used to create common materials for daily use. Jewellery making also adds to the artistic manifestation of Tamil culture which is exemplified in women’s matrimonial ornament.
